Welcome Marte to the Oliver + S blog today! She's here to share some of her incredible Roller Skate dresses she’s crafted over the years. Thanks so much for joining us, Marte! ![Oliver + S Roller Skate dresses](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/2c523e02f9943298750f4d013dc9a2ea.jpeg) Hi everyone! My name is Marte, and I'm from Belgium. I'm thrilled to be here sharing my sewing journey with all of you. You can keep up with my sewing projects over at Compagnie M. While I design my own patterns, I also enjoy trying out patterns from other independent designers. Among the patterns I've worked with, the Roller Skate dress is definitely one of my favorites. I've been sewing it for about seven years now. My very first Roller Skate dress was a bit more formal. I went all out and added a beautiful collar detail along with a small bow. If I ever find the fabric again, I'd definitely make another version of this dress. I know it would look great on my daughters. As you might have guessed, I have twin girls who share a single wardrobe. They're identical twins, but their personalities couldn't be more different. The second Roller Skate dress I made was specifically for Nore's fourth birthday. I kept it simple and classic, choosing a fabric that was so stunning I didn't want to add anything else to it. I only used one large vintage button from my collection. Matching the print at the back was tricky, but I think I did a decent job. ![Oliver + S Roller Skate dress](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/535573ce2b7e51fb7d81da77f91e7592.jpg) I absolutely adore this pattern. It's incredibly easy to sew, which makes it perfect for both beginners and experienced sewists alike. One day, while browsing fabrics, I found this amazing print that inspired me to create a vintage-inspired version of the Roller Skate dress. I used the same fabric twice—orange for the outer layer and brown for the lining. Special linings always catch my eye, and this dress was no exception. ![Oliver + S Roller Skate dress](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/d0e8f4bd9af8cd85cb733d14b392d4da.jpg) ![Oliver + S Roller Skate dress](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/388ba9eecc71eb690e622a9d0c698dcd.jpg) ![Oliver + S Roller Skate dress](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/6d011b393d4eb5494a9aad0ae19bfcc1.jpg) Last week, I think I made my personal favorite Roller Skate dress yet. After attending a fabric design workshop, I saw this gorgeous dress from an expensive French brand. Since I couldn’t justify the cost, I decided to recreate it. Using Illustrator, I designed my own version of the fabric (for personal use only) and had it printed through Spoonflower. Thanks to their new German branch, shipping to Belgium is finally affordable. The fabric features a large print, so I chose the Roller Skate dress pattern again because it doesn’t require separate sleeves. This allowed me to preserve the integrity of the print. We’re really happy with how it turned out. Let’s hope summer arrives soon! ![Oliver + S Roller Skate dress](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/3163eec3a3e62e7544dd298f28e42e58.jpg) Have I convinced you to give this pattern a try? I truly hope so. This isn’t just a one-off review—I’ve shared my thoughts on my own blog multiple times. Here’s a quick recap: The basic Roller Skate dress is an ultra-fast project, which is why I love it so much. It’s also versatile—it works well with any type of fabric. When working with large prints, this pattern is my go-to choice. Even though dresses 2 and 3 were made two years ago, my girls can still wear them. The wide design and elastic around the chest allow for easy adjustments. Simply replace the elastic every now and then, and you can wear the dress as a tunic or add a contrasting hem. Isn’t it wonderful to have a sustainable wardrobe filled with Roller Skate dresses? Thank you, Oliver + S, for creating such a fantastic pattern. Keep up the great work! [Advertisement] Related Posts: [Insert related posts section]
